Philosophy of ministry

Mission

Mission to the university, missionaries to the world:

  1. Empower students to thoughtful, creative, genuine and evangelistic mission to the University of Tasmania.
  2. Identify and cultivate Christian leaders, especially missionaries, church planters and pastors.

Vision

  1. We will be a large, diverse, long term and flexible ministry.
  2. We will have a global network of missionaries, pastors, church planters and graduates committed to our ministry.

Values

1. We are not consumers, we are whole heartedly committed to the mission of the University Fellowship of Christians.

  • Attend all meetings of student committe, Evening meeting and Fellowship group unless there is a major reason. Study is not a major reason.
  • Make a decision for your ministry with the Uni Fellowship to take priority over other ministry commitments for the year.

2. We are not a church, we are all members of local churches.

  • Become an active member of a church in Hobart.
  • Ask leaders of your local church for opportunity for you to speak about Uni Fellowship at least once a year.
  • Invite other students from your local church to attend Uni Fellowship at least once a year.

3. We are not activists, we devote ourselves to prayer and meditating on Scripture. Some possible activities:

  • Regularly memorise Scripture.
  • Big slabs of time devoted to prayer in public and private.
  • Plan to read the whole Bible.
  • Pray both for ministry here and overseas.

4. We are not a ghetto, we are active members of the social life of UTAS.

  • Persue interest in non Christian culture.
  • Join and participate in student societies.
  • Consider joining the TUU and voting in elections.
  • Read and write for Togatus.
  • Listen to Edge Radio.
  • Join Facebook.

5. We are not a parasite, we are dilligent in our studies and involvement in the University community.

  • Hand assignments in on time.
  • Attend classes and meet others in your classes.

6. We are not a youth group, we expect mature and loving adult behaviour and responsibility.

  • Keep a diary and take note of all information and commitments relevant to you.
  • Give apologies and renegotiate commitments and deadlines well in advance.
  • Check and promptly reply to emails at least three times a week.
  • Check and promptly reply to text messages.
