Success, Suffering and Self-Control: Jesus and the Stoics

The ancient philosophy known as Stoicism has had an enduring legacy, from ancient emperors and modern day social media influencers. It casts a vision for life well lived, guided by about reason, resilience and virtue.
There are some noticeable similarities between the ideas of the Stoics and the teaching of Jesus Christ, but also some very significant differences.
A public lecture especially designed to be engaging to both Christians and those with other religious or philosophical beliefs. The lecture will explore this topic and explain some of the deep truths of the Christian faith along the way.
The evening will feature an extended Q&A time with questions taken from the floor and via SMS.

Guest speaker Chase Kuhn is rector of St Matthias Anglican Church, Centennial Park. Originally from the USA, he moved to Australia in 2011 to study the doctrine of the church. Before his current ministry, he was a lecturer in theology and ethics and the director of the Centre for Christian Living at Moore College. His passion is teaching people God’s Word and showing them how theological convictions impact real-world living.
